Ancient capital Mtskheta

Mtskheta is a historically significant place: it used to be the capital from 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD and this is where Christianity was proclaimed the state religion in 337. Its medieval city center, magnificent Sveti Tskhoveli cathedral and strategic Jvari monastery are included in UNESCO World Heritage sites.
