Description

Ch. Gloria, Grand Vin, Saint-Julien, 2016 is a 75cl red wine from Winebuyers. This wine is an unclassified chateau made up of parcels of Classified Growths, making it a democratic choice among Saint-Juliens. In 1942, Henri Martin, a cooper born in the region, began acquiring plots of vineyards from classed growth properties, including Talbot, Gruaud-Larose and Leoville-Barton. He took over the Gloria property the same year and by the mid 1960s had 50 hectares spread from north to south in the St-Julien appellation. After his passing in 1991, his son-in-law Jean-Louis Triaud took over the management of Gloria. The wine is usually a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, with a small amount of Cabernet Franc. It matures in a combination of large oak foudres and 50% new small oak barrels. Gloria is considered one of the great bargains in high-quality Bordeaux, worthy of inclusion among the Classified Growths. This is very good Bordeaux at an agreeable price.
