Excursion to Syracuse

After visiting the Greek Theater and the large archaeological area, the quarries and the Ear of Dionysius, we will visit the typical market of the Ortigia Peninsula where spices, dried and fresh fruits, tomatoes, cherries, vegetables, cheese and fish, almond -Sweets and chocolates from Modica are offered. Ortygia, the historic center of Syracuse, which, with its unique charm, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. You will see the remains of the ancient Greek temples, the Castello Maniace fortress, the baroque churches, noble palaces and the fantastic cathedral overlooking the main square. During a long walk through the streets of Ortygia we will admire the famous painting "The Burial of Saint Lucy" by Caravaggio, dedicated to the town's patron saint, and we will stop at a company that works with papyrus, whose existence in this area of Sicily dates back to goes back to the time of the Greeks.
