Ayutthaya is arguably the most impressive set of temples in Thailand, and their response to Cambodia's famous Angkor Wat. It houses the famous "Buddha head in the tree"! Ayutthaya was in fact the ancient capital of Thailand and in 1700 was the largest city in the world! It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the fact that so many people pass through Bangkok without spending a day here is almost inconceivable, it is absolutely to be seen.
