Curcumin is a pigment found in turmeric that gives it its golden colour. As a component of standard turmeric root, curcumins concentration averages around 2-8 percent.4 The amount of curcumin in turmeric is thought to be the main contributor to the spices benefits. Curcumin is a fat-soluble compound and, like other fat-soluble nutrients, needs to go through a number of steps prior to its absorption.
