Fruity Rwanda! Upon cupping, our roaster and head barista perceived grapefruit acidity and dried apricot sweetness, with a strawberry-like sensation that comes after - all thanks to Rulindo's district's distinctive geology and fertile sandy soil.

At an altitude of 1700–2300 metres, the Rulindo region in northern Rwanda experiences two dry seasons and two rainy seasons annually, with a warm climate and copious rainfall all year long.

Meanwhile, the producer Juru Coffee Cooperative (which means "heaven") aspires to unite communities by converting farmers from doing only subsistence farming to producing high-quality coffee. This is an upward movement that improves both the value and market price for the local Rwandan coffee families, which can then end the cycle of poverty by investing in their children's education and well-being when they are able to produce and sell high-quality products.

On the Naming of the Coffee

At The Crackpots Coffee Roaster, we always try to help beginners and advanced drinkers alike to understand more about coffees. One of our efforts is to explain the various cryptic names of coffees which could be confusing.

Here’s a breakdown of this coffee:

Rwanda
A landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa. It neighbours Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and Congo.
NPR Acronym for Northern Province, Rwanda
Rulindo  A district in the Northern Province of Rwanda.
Juru Short for “Juru Coffee Cooperative”, meaning sky or heaven with Kinyarwanda origin.
A1

Rwandan coffee is graded by the density of the beans, with the highest density being grade A. Grade A is divided into A1 and A2 for specialty grade, and A3 for commercial grade, followed by grade B and C.

The higher the density, the more solid the fruit structure, the more complete the flavor development, and the better the quality.

Sc 15+ This coffee is sorted according to screen size of 15+, which makes roasting easier and more balanced due to similar sizes.
